Don Goddard

Don Goddard

Don Goddard has been a studio potter for over 25 years. He works in stoneware and porcelain fired at high temperature in a gas kiln. He has worked on many different techniques over the years. His current pieces are strong on form and understated in decoration. Don describes them as more proccess oriented, more dependent on the physical action and interaction of clay, glaze and fire.
Don is currently exploring shino glaze, which gives much of his work its caracteristic warm orange glow. Shino is a traditional Japanese glaze from the Momoyama Period ( known as the Golden Age of Japanese Ceramics), appreciated for its use on vessels in the tea ceremony. This glaze familly offers an exceptional range of posibilities in both color and texture - from rusty red through orange, grey and white - and is highly compatible with food and functional ware as well as decorative work.
Over the years, Don has taught courses and given workshops in addition to selling his work through his own shop. Presently he works from home, supplying galleries and exhibiting a few times yearly. He continues to give workshops on throwing techniques, glazes and decoration as well as raku firing. He is represented in both public and private collections.
